The main objective of this guitar is to implement real-time pitch detection using lasers and time-of-flight (ToF) sensors. There currently aren't any musical instruments on the market that use this principle, but it is a great concept to produce continuous changing pitches in frequencies such as sliding notes.

Our project focuses on creating an alternative fall detection system utilising only lidar technology. Although Lidar is more expensive device than a traditional camera, radar or gyroscopic systems, the lidar has a level of privacy that cameras don’t have, generates a 3-D representation of objects more precisely than with radar, doesn’t require individuals to own a device of their own thus allowing it to be used in public/common areas. As lidar continues to drop in price we should see lidar being more enticing to use in these types of fall detection systems.

The Sparring Point Detector project utilizes a camera with computer vision to perform this judging process, removing the aforementioned problems. At the start of a match, the program detects the gloves of both participants and overlays bounding boxes around them. During the match, these gloves are tracked to determine a collision between a glove and a torso. When a collision is detected, the participant who landed the hit is awarded a point and a round ends. Once a participant reaches the required number of points, the match ends.
